Raising awareness of local biodiversity UK

While working at the Eden Project, Pete Whitbread-Abrutat developed and managed the partnership with UK Government conservation agency English Nature (now Natural England) and participated in the Cornwall Biodiversity Initiative (CBI) – a forum of conservation groups collaborating to raise awareness of the county’s biodiversity and the need for its conservation. Pete developed the concepts for, and managed, the following initiatives:

  • Xploring Wild Cornwall – a practical guidebook to raise public awareness of the county’s habitats and ecosystems and the importance of the human interaction that has helped create them. Pete’s role included developing the concept, writing, photography and managing the graphic design aspects. He arranged their sale at Eden and through other local outlets with proceeds going to further the work of the CBI.
  • Producing posters of local biodiversity for sale at the Eden Project, with proceeds going to the work of the CBI.
  • Incorporating CBI messaging and work into Eden’s Wild Cornwall exhibit – a pastiche of Cornwall’s landscapes and habitats – visited by a million visitors per year.
