While working at the Eden Project, Pete Whitbread-Abrutat was part of the three-year, international, EU-funded ‘Impactmin’ project to research methods for the remote monitoring of the environmental and social impacts of mining across the continent.
He advised and assisted a Camborne School of Mines project researcher in understanding the impacts of the mining industry, including the development of questionnaires for investigating social impacts in mining communities in Cornwall, Sweden, Romania, Russia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also organised a Cornwall workshop and site visits for European project partners in Cornwall and participated in a four-day community consultation involving workshops, interviews and focus groups, in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
